Our client is the largest privately-owned property management and investment company based in Central London, the UK, with a portfolio worth £8 billion. They deal in property development, investment, partnerships, and strategic land, and have a strong presence across major cities and towns in the United Kingdom.
The client needed help in addressing their pain points, particularly, the peak load challenge they were facing. This ongoing monthly challenge crept in when running processes and surveys using their legacy in-house systems, which would result in their peak utilisation. On certain days of a month, the peak load was multiple times the average load for the rest of the month. To overcome this problem, they were forced to provision and de-provision servers, based on the peak load of applications, creating significant financial, time, and resource pressure, and creating a dilemma of cost vs. average utilization for the client’s IT Team.
They consulted Damco for its proven expertise in cloud migration services. We ran assessments and compatibility tests by leveraging a wide gamut of tools we had in our arsenal to devise the best solution for their requirements. Our experts chalked out a phased solution to address the challenge dealt by the client month on month, by providing a holistic system transformation to manage load variation.
We devised a robust roadmap for application migration from on-premises to the cloud, while exploring all possible cloud platforms for their low-productive systems. With exhaustive scouting and research, Azure was found optimal for deployment as it catered to their business requirements holistically.
challenges
Major load variation multiple times a month
Outdated legacy system unable to manage peak load
Excessive costs incurred for provisioning and de-provisioning servers
Unjust cost versus average utilization
The client collaborated with Damco to accelerate its technology modernization journey while optimizing and enhancing business efficiency. With a unified approach, our team of experts worked on a solution roadmap and developed an extensive plan for all aspects of risk & captive management, and insurance.
We planned the migration in a phased manner for a smooth transition of applications to the cloud environment. The initial focus was to migrate a few core applications to create a migration path to Azure from heterogeneous platforms. We migrated some applications to the cloud in the initial phase using rehosting or forklift, keeping it cost and time – efficient.
All other workloads and applications that required peak load handling were migrated subsequently to Azure cloud. We performed re-platforming and re-architecting of workloads & applications to optimize performance. The complete infrastructure was deployed on Layer 4 (TCP, UDP) Azure load balancer to reduce the average load. Besides this, all pre-production software development life cycle (SDLC) processes were moved to Microsoft Azure including pre-production systems, test and development, and user acceptance testing.
Damco Solutions provided custom cloud application migration solutions that are secure, scalable, and readily available to offer cloud benefits whilst addressing our client’s pain points. Our cloud app migration roadmap is built on industry best practices, which led to CAPEX into OPEX. Not to mention, migration of core applications on a flexible cloud model enabled the optimal performance of the systems on load variation across the month, churning greater profits for the client. Their internal and external customers were benefited from the optimised application process. Damco’s strategic phased approach further enabled faster time to market for the client’s applications, ensuring continuous improvements in quality and service to its clientele.
